Dress for Your Body Type – Part One

I am all for freedom in fashion but let’s face it; Every thing is not for every one.  Just because you can get it on doesn’t make it okay to wear it out.  We have all seen it out and about, that one outfit that is so disruptive you almost crash while driving.  What’s worst is wedding parties.  Why would you force women of varying sizes to wear the same style of dress?  Sometimes it works but usually it doesn’t.

The first body type I will address is the pear shaped body.  This is the body type that carries the majority of weight in the waist and hip areas.  If your hips are your widest point, often wider than your shoulders and you have a bust measurement considerably smaller than your hips, you may be a pear.  Here are some tips for dressing a pear body type:

1) Jackets are your friend.  Jackets will add more width to your shoulders and balance out your shape.

2) Prints. Keep prints on top.  Avoid them on the bottom.

3) Colors. As with prints, you want to avoid lots of color on bottom.  You can be as bright or light as you like on top but keep your bottom darker and solid.

4) Tailoring. If you like details like pleats and ruffles, keep them on top.  Your bottoms should have clean tailoring, straight lines.

Keep in mind these are guidelines not rules.  When it comes to dressing, doubt typically means don’t.  Use your discretion and have fun!
